THE KING'S SCHOOL TRANSITIONAL PROGRAMME
Music has no borders.
Thank you, Quest Musique, for the donation of egg shakers toward our music programme. The King's School is a faith-based Transitional Programme began in September of 2007. Children from New Canadian families are invited to transition into their new language, culture and climate in a supportive, safe environment. The children are from war-torn countries, predominantly Africa. This downtown classroom requires four volunteers a day to run smoothly. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Val at 957-1047.
Winnipeg sisters, Alexandra (11), and Katie (8), initiated a chocolate milk campaign in their schools that raises funds to provide their downtown friends with a glass of milk everyday they are in school. If you wish to contribute to this fund, please mail in your contributions marked 'ATTN: Milk Campaign' to the address below.

Organized by Style Manitoba, this well attended event raised $13,390.00 for Variety's kids! The weather cooperated with a calm, cool evening, perfect for a cruise along the Red River aboard the newly refurbished River Rouge. Passengers were treated to a wonderful fashion show courtesy of spalifestyle & fashion boutique then fans crowded the lower deck to listen to the velvety sounds of Alfie Zappacosta. Many thanks to Rita van Leeuwen, the staff at Style Manitoba magazine and the fabulous sponsors of this very successful event, spalifestyle & fashion boutique, Fehr-Way Tours, SIKU Vodka and the River Rouge.
A PARTY WITH A CAUSE
The Hot 103 Home Show - Friday Sept 26th 2008
The Hot 103 Home Show was a blast! A special thanks goes out to Andre Bayrak. Andre was the home show winner and he opened his home to everyone for a rockin party! Sons Of York, A New Honour & Tele rocked the house! (literally) Thanks so much to everyone who partnered with us to make the night a success! Sorrentos provided a mass amount of Pizza & Molson was so kind to donate beer for the whole block! Thanks to everyone who came out to party and most of all those who donated money. We raised $700.00 for Siloam Mission!
Thank you for your most gracious gift of a guitar & hard shell case the 2nd year in a row!
Each year the guitar has been used by the team to lead in worship and has been instrumental in cross cultural connection. Each year, the indigenous people have asked what the cost of the guitar is, yet none of them have the means to purchase this instrument. This year, when we were in a BaTwa (pygmy tribe) village in the mountains of Burundi, the chief said that when we sing and dance they feel a connection to us. We would take turns singing and dancing, although we did not understand each others speaking tongues, we connected as we sang.
Last year your generous gift went to one of 2 Restoration Of Hope homes; each with around 10 rescued boys and an adult leader. These are boys that have been rescued from the streets of Bujumbura and now have a hope for a life, since schooling, shelter and food are provided for them, as well as a plan to restore their family to viability and then these boys back to the family. Last year when we got there, both homes, several miles apart, shared one guitar; your generous gift enables these boys to have a guitar in each home.
This year, your generous gift stayed with the New Hope Home. This is known to us as the Nyakabiga orphanage and it houses 50 children that were rescued in the last 2 years from the Congo. Their families have been destroyed and there is no safe place for them to return to. Until a few months ago, there was a worker here that had a guitar but took it with her when she left. These children love to sing, and the Pastor that cares for them plays the guitar, although he does not own one.
We spent several days with this group and as we ended, they spent an extended time singing and dancing, praising the Lord for His bountiful provision.
It is indeed a great blessing to have you partner with us in this way, sharing the hope and love of Christ through whatever means possible.
